Position Summary

A Custodian II, or Caretaker, will support the ministry goals of Zion Hill Baptist Church by maintaining the cleanliness of a building and the surrounding grounds. The duties of this Facility staff member include cleaning areas as needed, vacuuming floors, washing windows, sanitizing restroom facilities, assisting with event setup and collecting trash to ensure the building occupants have a clean space.

Essential Job Functions & Requirements

Specific job functions for the Custodial II include: 

  • Provide routine safety checks of the building while cleaning the different areas

  • Keep building plus premises neat clean at all times, according to the standards established by the Church

  • Clean assigned areas of responsibility

  • Assist with training of new employees

  • Work with other custodians on projects requiring more than one person

  • Share cleaning responsibilities to be scheduled around Church programs

  • Record acts of vandalism

  • Report need for repairs to the Facility Manager or Maintenance Worker II

  • Assist in the safety of all outside surfaces during freezing temperatures

  • Assist in necessary cleaning, painting and making general repairs

  • Remain on call in case of an emergency

  • Keep lighting and other energy systems to the minimum required to accomplish the task

  • Arrange furniture equipment as directed

  • Develop an effective level of communication with appropriate personnel


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods

  • Ability to lift and move over 50 pounds

  • Knowledge of different cleaning products and tools

  • Time-management and multitasking abilities

  • Physical strength and stamina

  • Organizational skills

  • Good verbal communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision


WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Requires sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, and stooping for prolonged periods of time

  • Requires using a ladder or stairs for up to 10 feet on an incline

  • Requires lifting waist high, shoulder high, and above the head; pushing, pulling, holding up to 50 pounds and carrying alone or with assistance

  • Requires operating a telephone, hand and electric tools, and manipulating small objects

  • Requires having general vision, distinguishing color, hearing and listening, smelling, touching, and speaking clearly

  • Requires working under pressure and rapidly for prolonged periods of time

  • Requires working indoors and outdoors

  • Requires working in dusty/dirty, wet/humid conditions, or an area affected by fumes, smoke, etc.

  • Requires working in a loud work environment requiring ear protection

  • Requires working on surfaces that are sloping, uneven or slippery

Hours of Work

Scheduled up to 30 hours per week
Schedule will vary based on church activities
